St Hardulph was a Northumbrian king who may be buried at the Mercian royal monastery of Breedon-on-the-Hill in Leicestershire. The church was originally part of a monastery founded about 676. It contains the largest collection of Anglo-Saxon carving. A panelled stone structure carved with processions of bearded and robed figures under arches may have served as the outer part of his sarcophagus.
